Ever wish you could sit down with a professional in the wedding business and pick their brains for useful tips? Or look back at photos of yourself and wish that you would have done something differently? I think most of us have been there, which is one reason why I am hooked on my wedding photographer’ helpful blog.
My photographer Lauren Brimhall, writes a blog where she not only posts highlights of recent events that she has shot, but she also posts tips for brides to be. She posts advice on how to get the most of your photos. For example, she has posted advice on topics like, “Find a Clean Space to Get Ready In”. While this may sound obvious to some, it could be something easily overlooked by many. Of all the tiny details that I have spent countless hours scrutinizing, the cleanliness of the location where we would get ready never once crossed my mind. If I hadn’t thought to keep a tidy room, I am sure I would have regretted that when I saw the photos later.

Another useful tip that I learned from Lauren’s blog was to “Kill the Shot List”. I originally thought that I should write a long detailed list of my “must have” photos for my photographer. I had thought it would be helpful to provide this list, so that I knew she would be aware of what I was looking for. In this post she explains that this list can actually prevent a photographer from getting the photos you will wish you had later. If your photographer has to spend most of the wedding looking through a very detailed list of requested shots, he or she will miss out on a lot of time that they could be focusing on getting candid shots capturing the small moments. Instead talk to your photographer about what you are looking for in advance, and be sure they know what you want. Then make a small list of shots (no more than 10), that you think they might not realize that you would want.

She has also discussed topics such as, the best angles to stand during your wedding, and the importance of holding that first kiss for a few extra seconds to ensure a great first kiss photo. For more tips, feel free to check out Lauren’s blog, or talk to your photographer to see if they have any tricks of the trade to offer. Don’t wait until you get the finished product to wish you had thought ahead!
