Keeping your wedding on budget is always a huge part of planning a wedding. If you hire a wedding planner, most will usually help you keep track of what you are spending in addition to a payment schedule for deposits, payments, and balance due dates. If you are not able to (or don’t want to) hire a wedding planner, there are multiple resources available to help you keep track of your budget on your own. For my wedding, I have created a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that has each part of the wedding broken down into individual costs, the amount of the deposit, payments, balances, and then an overall tally of how much I have spent and still owe. If you are not computer savvy, don’t worry! There are a few websites you can visit and download templates for a wedding budget and then all you have to do is plug in your numbers! Microsoft has a template that is very easy to use, as well as sampletemplate.net and both are free to download.
A tip for making sure you get what you want without going over budget – prioritize your categories by numbering them. For example, if there is a must have (like your reception venue or your dream dress) you would put a 1 next to that and know that you aren’t willing to skimp on that specific thing. As you move down, you will find things that are less important that you wouldn’t mind cutting costs on. Also some bride’s (and a lot of planners) divide up there budget into percentages allocated to each category. For example 30% of your budget may be spent on the reception, while only 6% on cake. You can search the internet for general breakdowns of wedding costs to try out this method of budgeting.
