Making your wedding a DIY-wedding: Etsy style

Posted on August 10, 2011 by  Miss Polka Dot Bride   //   Comment

My name is Christine, and I am an Etsy addict. I’ve made a few purchases on Etsy thus far, and I’m happy to report I’ve absolutely loved the things I ordered – garter, bridal jewelry, earrings and bracelets for the bridesmaids, and bridesmaid gifts.

The best thing about Etsy is that you can celebrate the artistic talent of thousands of people around the world while you make your wedding look like a DIY wonderland. Whether you have a lot of DIY blood in your body or hate your handwriting with a passion, there are options to cover every single aspect of your wedding.

A few questions you should ask yourself when deciding how to Etsy-fy (Etsify?) your wedding:

  • What’s my wedding theme or style? What overall look am I going for?
  • What’s my budget?
  • What parts of the wedding do I want to look extra special or unique?

Then go searching! I found quite a few fall wedding details from various Etsy sellers that would make our wedding look amazing…

I’ve pretty much been in love with these invitations by Artbycrystal since the beginning. Sigh. They’re amazing.

Wedding wands by Craftupyourlife – a cool alternative to the celebratory bubbles.

Signs are a great way to add some warmth and love to your venue. I love the idea of hanging a “Thank You” sign by the doors so guests see it when they’re leaving. This one is by ParamoreArtWorks.

If you’re going for the rustic look, this basket by MinSvenskaLandgard is perfect for your programs, favors, etc.

Aw wedding garland. Sigh. I think some of these pages were taken out of an old book…perhaps a romance novel? Hang them in doorways at the reception location for some true romantic ambiance. This seller is ThePathLessTraveled.

Are you having a wishing tree? These tags by Packratdiva are awesome. I love all the detail in the leaves and the font!

These little flowers are adorable and remind me of a fun detail I saw at one of my friend’s weddings. She had little flowers at all of the tables (the venue was an art gallery that went on several floors), which created an awesome whimsical effect. The bases were Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and on top were handmade paper flowers. They were in different shapes and colors all around…there must have been hundreds of them. It was awesome. These beauties are by Thepapergirl.

DIY favors can be some of the coolest but most time-consuming projects, depending on the size of the wedding. Save some time and effort with these absolutely adorable fall favors by Dasweetzpot.

This ring bearer pillow from Luly612 is perfect with all its autumn hues.

This can be a keepsake or used as part of your wedding – a custom painted ring dish. It could hold your bridal jewelry as you’re getting ready or hold the rings during the ceremony. I like this more than many of the personalized keepsake options that are out there. This one is by Marywibis.

And last but not least, wedding signs. Whether it’s to give directions or to add some decoration, these can add a really intimate and personal feel to your reception. Plus you can use them in your home after the wedding. And as a quote lover, I’m all over this. Here’s one my RomanticPlanet.

It all depends on what you want and what fits your vision for the big day. Wedding planning is stressful, and Etsy can provide a lot of relief from that stress…while also making your wedding a truly beautiful one!
