Crane Place Cards

Posted on August 4, 2011 by  Miss Ontario Bride   //   3 Comments

It seems only natural given our crane theme to use origami cranes in some way when making the place cards for our guests. Since the paper comes in a pack of 12 different shades of green, I am thinking of using a different shade of green origami cranes for each table (with a couple of duplicates) to help guests more easily identify their table. But when it comes to deciding exactly where and how to put the table # and guest name on the origami crane there seem to be quite a few options to consider.

You can place a card with the guest name and table # on the crane using the tail to hold it in place.

Here’s another example – see the pink crane in the bottom center of the left hand photo.

Or you can place the card with the guest name and table # between the wing and the body and display the cranes sideways.

You can go with a more simple approach and just attach the origami cranes to the top of a card with the information on it that you can lie on a table.

Another alternative is to keep the origami cranes flat on one side so you can lay them on top of the card that will also lie flat on the table (see bottom right).

Another interesting idea was to suspend the origami crane with a card in glass or hang them from the side a glass (or anything else you want). These particular place cards are sold by ciao kimiko on Etsy for those of you who don’t want to make them yourself.

Or you could tie a card like a luggage tag to the origami cranes. Personally, if I were to chose this method, I would tie them from the tail so it doesn’t look like you are strangling the cranes. I know they are just paper but strangulation is probably not what you want guests to be thinking of on your wedding day.

The Knot

Another good idea is to attach a tag to the “inside” of the crane so it pokes out the back of the crane. As long as it is rectangular the crane can sit over top of it and as an added bonus the tag serves double duty as a place to hold the crane should you want to “fly” it.

PINK ORCHID designs

Another clever idea is to make the cards smaller and attach them to the crane’s mouth so it looks like they are carrying them. Who wouldn’t want their own own messenger crane?

I’m still not sure which option to chose – I guess I will have to consult with my expert crane making friend Lisa and my wedding planner Zoe before deciding. Oh yeah, I should probably see what Aaron likes to. What option do you like? Any other great ideas out there?

They are all great ideas! I love the glass idea. We had considered making die cut birds that sat on the edge of glasses for our wedding place cards but when we decided to forgo the china for plastic that wasn’t an option.

I’d say the ones in the glass and the last two are the ones that really catch my eye and make me go wow. People are so talented!
