Venuti’s – Our Reception Venue!

Posted on January 11, 2014 by  Miss Fairytale Bride   //   2 Comments

Back in June, Nick and I had a list of six venues to look at the day after our engagement party. The first venue on our list was Venuti’s, a place I had never even heard of but a stunning picture of a BREATHTAKING staircase in a bridal magazine drew me in! (If you read one of my older blogs – There’s Something Magical About A Staircase – you’ll know I have a thing for staircases!) We found that Venuti’s was conveniently located within a minute off the highway and near many hotels, that’s a big plus already! The outside alone was beautiful…

We were greeted by Karen, she was so friendly and it was so early in the morning! Her upbeat, bubbly attitude was contagious and after rubbing my tired eyes once more (we did just get done celebrating our engagement the night before, I was tired!) I was awake and excited! After sitting down for a few moments and getting the big stuff out of the way…what date we wanted, how many people…she escorted us over to the Venezia room! (because of our large party size, they’ll actually be expanding it and it will be even larger than what’s shown below)

When we went back into her office to talk more, we were offered mimosas or cappuccinos! Turns out by having our wedding in the winter, we got a few extra perks! We receive a martini bar, sweets table, and hors d’oeuvres as part of our package! I was sold! Nick still looked a little unsure. When said that having a premium open bar was very important to him, she reassured him and told him that of course that was part of their standard package! Sold! But this was still only the first place we went to, and our next stop was the one I DREAMED of having our wedding at, so we thanked her and took all the information with us. I think she could tell we were a little tired, she even offered us our cappuccinos to go (we gladly accepted!)

When we arrived at the next destination, it was just gorgeous as I remembered. I had been there before for some plays so I had known what to expect. The girl that greeted us looked even more tired that I did! She was so unenthused, and just looked like she’d rather be anywhere else than here. It really killed all my excitement that Karen stirred up for me. The longer we spent, the more I just wanted to leave. I thought myself, do I really want to plan the most important day of my life with this person? The answer was NO. We toured the rest of the venues that day and at the end of the day, Venuti’s (and Karen) was our choice! I called up Karen the next day and she was just as excited as I was! She had shown us a couple pictures of weddings that have taken place their in the holiday season and encouraged me to come back in the winter to see it with all the decorations, so I did! I revisited them today and here’s some of the pictures I took:

we also got this room as a bonus with our package. we’ll probably set up the sweets table or photo booth (if we go with one) in there I imagine…DSCN2293

and the best for last!

The Venue – An Elegant Ballroom

Posted on June 14, 2012 by  Miss Detailed Bride   //   Comment

Choosing a reception venue was easy for my fiancé and I.  We had been to multiple weddings at Oglebay Resort’s Glessner Ballroom, and knew almost immediately after getting engaged that this was the perfect location.  It has everything I could possibly want.  The ballroom sets the mood for an elegant evening, with raised ceilings and a large dance floor.  There is a stage to hold the bridal party, and even an upper level that is ideal for our large cookie tables!

Saving the Date..with Venues

Posted on May 27, 2012 by  Miss Modern Bride   //   3 Comments

Most brides jump on the wedding dress shopping experience as the first item to do on the long list of things they will want to accomplish over the next several months. For my wedding, there was something that was much more important – the date! My fiancé and I were set on a date, June 1, 2013, and we decided that we want to book our Ceremony and Reception venues around the date rather than choosing a date that worked around our favorite venues. Even when you are beginning to plan a year or more in advance, its definitely a smart idea to book these two venues as soon as they will allow (some will only book 12 months in advance, others will allow you to book farther out).

Being that we were very particular about the date we wanted to get married (it was the day we officially started dating and we were lucky to have it fall on a Saturday in 2013) we knew we would have to be a little more flexible with where we would be able to book the Ceremony and Reception. We started with the church because we needed to make sure we had a place to get married before we even thought about the party! We knew we wanted to get married at St. Augustine Catholic Church, because that was one church in particular that had a Cuban Priest on staff so that was our first choice. We were lucky that he and the church were available, but we were limited on what times we could choose for the Ceremony.

For the Reception we narrowed it down to 3 top choices and all of them were available at the time of our consultations, but that didn’t last long. We were soon receiving calls that other brides were interested in booking on our date so we had to make a quick decision. We have decided to go with a historic building in the heart of Gainesville, FL that has an open concept and we can have our own choice of caterer. The Reception will take place in the Thomas Center Spanish Court, which matches perfectly with our 1950’s Havana, Cuba theme.

The lesson here: even if you think you are safely a year or more away from your Wedding date and that you have time to pick a date and venues, if you have a special date in mind or you have your dream venues, you will want to secure those things before you even start thinking about dresses or flowers. It’s the best way to start the planning experience in the right direction.

Venue on the menu…

Posted on February 6, 2012 by  Miss Nostalgic Bride   //   Comment

….for February!

Yep, I have procrastinated long enough!  I have my reasoning, I felt that if I had too much time to dawdle with details that I might: a. go insane, b. change my mind at least 13 times and c. go completely broke!

So finally, 8 months before the wedding, we are in search of a wedding venue. We have chosen several places to check out over the next few weekends. Here are the top contenders:

Studio 450

This is our first choice. We love the space, the natural light, the use of the penthouse-it’s just perfect. I love the chandeliers!

Divine Studio

This place looks amazing with it’s huge arched windows and white floors. I love the loft furniture too that is optional with the space. Word on the Internet is that this place is also tres affordable! Win-win!

Ramscale Loft

I love this space just because it’s not the typical loft space. There are ins and outs to it that give it a little more character. Depending on the set up, this possible gem can easily sneak into first place!

Gary’s Loft

Again, beautiful natural light coming into this space. I love the floors and this place happens to be in Brooklyn! My excitement stems from that fact that this space would be significantly less expensive and we would still get amazing views of the skyline. There are also beautiful places outside this building for photos.

Last but certainly not least…

The Dumbo Spot

This space is also located in Brooklyn and it’s a nice size for our wedding. I’m really digging the pillars throughout the space and once again, the area around this building is great for photos!

Will keep you posted on which we choose! I’m so excited!

The Victorian Ballroom

Posted on January 31, 2012 by  Miss Independent Bride   //   Comment

It’s official. We have booked our reception venue! Originally when thinking of places to have the reception, I wanted to try to avoid the standard banquet hall. Not that I have anything against them, but I wanted something a little different. A little more homey. Growing up on a farm myself, I have always found something so beautiful in gorgeous and simple barn receptions, such as this one photographed by Cameron Ingalls.

Unfortunately, since we will be having 150-175 guests for our reception in December, it was a tad difficult to find a venue like the one shown above where people wouldn’t have to take advantage of the tight quarters to huddle together for body warmth!

After looking at a handful of reception locales that a) have heat and b) have enough space for all of our guests, we narrowed it down to our one and only. The Victorian Ballroom in Niles, Ohio.

Even though it is still a banquet facility, it gives the warm and inviting feel that I didn’t experience at other venues.  How many other banquet facilities do you know that have a fireplace in them?! Pair the atmosphere with the great recommendations we had received and it was enough to win us over.

Everything will be personalized to our wedding, but here is a picture of the dual buffet lines, which they restock from the center (how genius?!).

And, here’s the famous cookie room again!!!

This area will be customized to our wedding decor and will house the wedding cake.

I am very pleased with our decision to have the wedding reception at The Victorian Ballroom. The husband and wife who own it are extremely nice and have been in the business long enough to give great tips on different ideas for the wedding day. I can’t wait to continue on with the planning process now that we have our venue!
