Oh, Sugar Sugar

After some discussion, Shaun and I decided that we will probably not have a wedding cake, but instead a dessert buffet.  We have yet to choose what exactly will be included, but here are some sweet ideas that may end up being part of our wedding:

PIES

A flavor for everyone and they’re perfect for the “country” part of our wedding theme. I love a homemade pie bar and who could resist these adorable mini-pies?!

ICE CREAM

Great for anytime of year, but especially a summer wedding, like ours. Love the personalized bowls, bride & groom cones and make-your-own bar.

COOKIES

Everyone loves cookies, so this would be an easy choice for any wedding. Cookie jars, milk shooters and a cookie bar are all great ways to share the doughy goodness.

ITALIAN DESSERTS

Growing up on Boston’s Mike’s Pastry, Italian desserts will always be my favorite. A dessert tower, tiramisu shots, Italian wedding cookies and cannolis are all delizioso!

DESSERT DRINKS

Instead of the typical desserts, why not combine them with your favorite steamy drinks. A coffee or hot chocolate bar would be the perfect pick-me-up treat!

How sweet it is

Let me introduce one of the best traditions of Pittsburgh (and maybe the northeastern U.S.) weddings: the cookie table! Michael’s family has a ton of cookie recipes and may contribute to our cookie table, or we might have some catered. One look at these tasty (and creative!) treats, and I bet you’ll want to come to our reception. Yummm.

Ah, my weakness – cheesecake. I am not big into desserts, but this is one that is worth every single calorie. My wedding day will not be complete without cheesecake bites, and I’ve made that known *sheepish grin*. These little masterpieces are by Annie’s Eats, but TONS of recipes exist out there. They’d also be great for engagement parties, wedding showers, and the rehearsal dinner!

And then I fell in love with desserts on a stick. Haha. Cheesecake pops by Lemonpi. Yes please!

The heart-shaped pie on a stick are SUPER cute, but perhaps a tad too corny for the wedding day. Bridal shower, perhaps. Bakerella also has tons of other ideas that are unique and uber-creative.

Hah! Pop Tarts on a stick! These remind me of the Pop Tarts cereal – anyone remember that? But if you’re going to go for a unique and festive dessert table, I feel like this creation by The Family Kitchen be one that would stick out (pun intended).

And last but not least, my absolute favorite – pumpkin pie bites!!! This would be PERFECT for our fall wedding and add a little autumn love to our ‘cookie table’. These bites are also one of Bakerella‘s masterpieces. I so want pumpkin pie now.

Seems like it might be a good idea for brides and grooms to offer half “staple cookies,” like chocolate chip or peanut butter and brownies, and the other half some unique options that offer something different. Of all the weddings I’ve been to, I still remember the ‘different’ cookies or cake that I’ve had. It would be nice to give that to our guests. :-)
