Buns of Steal

As far back as I can remember, dance class has been a part of my daily life.

Ballet, Tap, Modern, African…you name it, I was there!   Although I bounced around to various dance studio’s in the city, some things always remained the same.

There was the lady with the big stick yelling to “point your toes, Astere!”

Of course there was the, “No Gum chewing” rule which will always be in effect.

And no matter the length of hair that the young lady had to work with, every girl at the Ballet Barre had to be sure that each and every strand was up in a bun!  Actually, now that I think about it, I couldn’t even imagine my formative years without a scrunchy and jam!

In the past, I’ve found that when I really need to look good, going with a style that I am most familiar with usually works best.  The most convenient thing about a bun is that it doesn’t have to be this way or that way, there are many variations.

As I begin to think about the hairstyle that will best accompany my face down the aisle of marital bliss, I’ve been wondering…could a bun steal the show???

Beauty Trend: The Rose Bun

Posted on October 5, 2014 by  Miss Long-Distance Bride   //   Comment

I have learned SO much about different trends throughout my planning process. One that I recently became aware of is in the beauty category….the rose bun! This hair style is so interesting and romantic, that if done right, I think it has the potential to be timeless and not too “trendy” looking.

This take on the rose bun is quite literal and a bit more than what I would want to wear on my wedding day…but there is no denying it is so pretty!

I love the look of this rose bun; it is so interesting and beautiful! It isn’t too “rose” looking, but the floral inspiration is certainly present. This is definitely the way I would wear this trend!

What are your thoughts on this new style? Would you do your hair this way on your wedding day?

Wedding Hair Photo Shoot

Posted on October 2, 2014 by  Miss Glam Bride   //   Comment

I firmly believe that we should all use social media to discover potential wedding vendors. I actually wrote about this very topic a little bit ago. Since moving to Atlanta, I’ve been busy searching for vendors on Instagram and Twitter.

I found my current hair stylist, Shawnese, on Instagram. Her Instagram pictures proved she was experienced and felt comfortable with all hair textures. So, I made an appointment and we immediately clicked. After she did my hair, I knew I’d be asking for her help on my wedding day.

Recently, she asked me to be a hair model for an upcoming photo shoot she had planned to help highlight her wedding hairstyles. Of course I agreed!

Here is a sneak peak into some of her magic:

I was also able to meet some other people during the process. Elvis Piedra was the amazing photographer. He was so nice, professional and definitely made me feel comfortable.

My makeup was done by the very talented Renitra Canty. She was definitely the life of the party and helped keep me going strong. Check out some of her work on her Instagram page, @eyeambeautylive.

The more you network, the more opportunities you just may come across.

Bridal Buns

Posted on April 22, 2014 by  Miss Glitzy Bride   //   Comment

A bun is the perfect bridal up-do! Whether it is neat and polished, intentionally messy or intricate knots and braids, one thing is always true, the bigger the better! The bun is chic and stylish, but more importantly a wonderful way for the bride to put her best face forward. Not only is it a beautiful up-do, but on your big day you’ll appreciate having your hair out of your face and neatly tucked in place.

If you’re in need of wedding hairstyle that is elegant and practical, then the bun is a great option for you! I’ve rounded up my favorite bridal buns below. Will you bun it on your wedding day?

Wedding Hair Updos (and Downdos!)

Posted on September 27, 2013 by  Miss Romantic Bride   //   1 Comment

There are a few factors to consider when choosing your wedding day hairstyle.  For those with thinner hair like myself, clip-in extensions are a favorable option to add volume and length.  I haven’t decided yet, but I’m leaning towards a long Gatsby-esque side style! Of course, the classic updo with an optional jewel set or hair accessory is perfect for all hair types.

How will you wear your hair on your wedding day?

Loose Braid and Curls
