Oh What a Wonderful World!

Messing around on the computer after one particularly heated debate with Nolan about our recycling habits, (many of you might know this as “I don’t want to take out the trash!” whining.) I decided to look up some ammo for our debate.(Based on this great carbon footprint calculator , I learned that if EVERYONE lived like Nolan and I, we would need 4.6 earths to provide enough resources!)

So knowing that I can actually set an example to help out mother earth with just small changes,  the search was on to find out how to make our special day more eco friendly.

Here are some of the ideas I stumbled upon.

Potted plants as a center piece! I love this idea, and you can attach a leaf to the underside of a random chair at each table to choose who gets to bring it home. Beautiful, and no plants were chopped down to wilt.

Another “green” idea I thought was really sweet are these plant-able seating cards. (Honestly, they get about 30 seconds of fame after your guests find their table- why not give them their full due, it’s an important job!)

From the invitations to the cocktail hour napkins – a lot of paper is used. GreatGreenWeddings.com has some amazing resources for purchasing recycled paper for all event needs!

In thinking of recycled paper, I had an idea from these beautiful flowers on etsy.com.

Beautifully made of silk – but what if they were created with recycled paper?

What IF, these were made with paper that just so happened to have the sheet music of you and your new husbands first dance? Which can possibly be thrown as a second bouquet freeing up about 65 dollars in the wedding flowers budget, and again saving a few flowers from certain doom.

(Origami Rose directions here if you’re curious.)

No matter what, I know our day will be special- no matter the cheesy factor, there’s a certain sense of pride to know that you’re making the world a better place.

OH p.s. Nolan did eventually take out the trash/recyclables.
