A Bow Tutorial for Favors

We hit another major milestone for our initial goal to make 500 coasters for our wedding favors. My little sister came down this weekend and together, fueled by candy and chick flicks, we wrapped up a successful weekend with 150 completed coasters and another 300 started with the 1st of 3 phases.

My sister was a quick learner and I even had time to show her how I plan on presenting the favors to our guests. The coasters will be paired with the same pattern and wrapped with a gold metallic ribbon. There are two different patterns that will alternate by place setting so each couple will have one complete set.

I showed my sister how to secure the coasters together with ribbon so that the bottom lays flat and the set is finished with a pretty bow by following these steps:

1) Measure the length of ribbon needed by aligning the ribbon end with a top edge of the object and wrap around so that the ribbon overlaps 4 times on the top face. Cut the ribbon on an angle. Our coasters are 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″  and required about a yard of ribbon.

2) Start out with enough length to form one loop on the right side of the object. Hold ribbon in place in the center using your thumb and wrap the long end (on left side) around the back and bring remainder up on the opposite side.

3) Anchor the wrapped piece in the center using your thumb and fold ribbon down to create an L-shape.

4) Wrap the long piece around the back and up around the surface and tuck the end of ribbon through the lower-right quadrant and bring through to the upper- right quadrant.

5) Tuck the small length of ribbon on the right side under the cross to the lower-right quadrant and pull ends tight.

6) Anchor the center of the bow while looping one end and using the other end to wrap around before pulling through to form a bow. Straighten bow by pulling ends and loop until bow is centered and even.
