Inspiration: Cake

Posted on April 24, 2012 by  Miss Vintage Bride   //   Comment

I have heard that the most memorable aspects of a wedding are often the cake and the dress. I have already picked my dress, so now all I need to do is decide upon what I want my cake to look like.

I remember watching this show on TV a while ago where a bride came into the cake shop and asked to use a design from her wedding dress as the design on her wedding cake. I thought it was a great idea and love the idea of using elements of the dress to design the cake.

You can use colors, patterns, shapes, and even the material in your dress to create the décor for your cake. It doesn’t have to end there either. The details on your dress, like covered buttons, sashes, brooches and even the jewelry you will be wearing can be used as inspiration for your cake.

How sweet it is…

Posted on April 19, 2012 by  Miss Nostalgic Bride   //   1 Comment

So I have officially decided we will do some sort of cake or pastry as our centerpieces. Flowers are super pricey and are not as fun to eat as flowers.
Okay, bad joke.

But you get what I mean.

This idea is practical and even though it’s getting more popular, it’s still considered a little out of the ordinary. Furthermore, I am the “cake maker” of the family so it totally “fits”. I think a really cute and simple cake on each table (or down a runner, I haven’t decided yet) will create a very dramatic effect.

Some inspiration…

Cakes Embellished with Ribbon

Pink and White Cakes with Small Edible Flowers

Oh, I am loving this! Super cute! What do you think?

Ombre Cakes

Beautiful ombre cakes…also known as color-blocking ~ when you see a monochromatic color used in multiple shades.  I tend to use it in fabric around a room and with flowers in centerpieces.  And I love the color-blocking here in these cakes, not just the exterior but also the interior.  You can’t judge a book by it’s cover and you can’t judge a cake by it’s icing!

Vintage Bake Shop Sweets Display

What a great way to add personality to the display of food. I like to call it not a buffet, but an experience… from a lemonade stand to a cupcake stand, from the food experiences and even to the bar. Have fun… Make it festive… Make it you!

Non-traditional Cakes

Posted on February 27, 2012 by  Miss Independent Bride   //   Comment

While it was always known that a traditional cake would be present on our wedding day, I never realized how many variations there were for substitutes to a cake. Take a look at what I found!

This tiered strawberry shortcake from Paula Deen gets my mouth watering just looking at it.

Cupcakes are a popular trend, but these, courtesy of Cotton and Crumbs, are displayed in such a neat way!

This “Bridesmaid Cake” is an old tradition where each person pulls a section of ribbon from a bundt cake to cut it. On the other end of the ribbon is a message and a good-luck charm.

For those of you who love funfetti cakes, there’s even an option for you!

I’ve never seen a cake pops cake like this!

Don’t like cake? What about mini pies?

Rice Krispie Treat cake anyone?

Every child would be in awe of this Little Debbie cake.

And just when I thought I had seen it all, this one takes cheesecake to a whole new meaning!
